  1. Can constant headaches be caused by low blood sugar?
    My husband has had a constant headache for the past few months. (Yes, MONTHS) and nothing is helping it. He’s gone to the doctor and has been referred to a neurologist, but can’t get in until July. He’s been given Imitrex, but it doesn’t help. He got shots from the ER, but that didn’t faze it either. He’s had an MRI and that came back clear.

    Anyway, this is actually a two-part question. When I was pregnant, I had hypoglycemia and found when I hit a horrible low, a swallow of maple syrup would make me feel better almost instantly. I tried this one morning with him, and worked for about 15 minutes, then came back, but not any worse than what it was.

    Can hypoglycemia cause ONLY headaches, or are there other signs to look for? (It’s been a while since I’ve had it so I can’t remember the details.)

    Any other suggestions until he can get to the neurologist? He’s on a host of meds (nexium, wellbutrin, singulair, lomotil, albuterol inhaler) so he has to be careful…
    …but any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

    Blessings

    • hey ive been in the medical field for 2 years and i have to say that yes hypoglycemia can cause severe headaches. and you said your husband got an MRI? well where did he go? and lmitrex isnt really a good drug to treat headaches, like the ones yourhusband is getting. ya know i have a strong feeling that your husband is a diabetic. if this is so the reason why he is getting these heads aches os because he dousent have enough sugar in his blood. so these headaches are trigured by lack of oxygen to the brain, nothing to severe, but without the glucose in the blood it dosent pump properly, so very small clots begin to form. so because of the lack of oxygen to the brain your husband suffers with these headaches. i also think that he is also pretty dizzy and nauseated. (sorry cant spell been up al night in the E.R.) so i think you should return to the docotor and have him be tested to see if he is dibetic. another side of i may be that he is getting way to much sugar. it is a posibility that he may be Hyperglycemic. dont see that very much though. Hope the Best for your husband. GOD BLESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Advice for feeling normal while dealing with hypoglycemia?
    My doctor recently diagnosed me with hypoglycemia. I have a number of other health problems including chronic tension headaches, ovarian cysts, and IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).

    Generally I feel nauseous and dizzy/lightheaded unless I eat pretty much every 2 hours or so. I guess I just can’t figure out how to eat because I feel pretty horrible most of the time. How can I deal with this?
    Also, I would like to avoid gaining a ton of weight.

    • i have hypoglcymia and i always carry water and snacks in my purse. eat a lot of protein in the morning for breakfast, like sausages, not only do they taste awesome but they’re filled with TONS of protein. and i find myself in a better mood when i eat them for some weird reason

  3. Are these signs of hypoglycemia or what are the signs of?
    I have been feeling really dizzy, confused, headaches, fragile, stomach hurting, weak, can’t sleep,always tiered and noxious lately :( I have been feeling like this on and off started in April and it’s on and off. I have had a few cases of me passing out in the pass when this has happen does this sound like hypoglycemia ?

    • It could be low blood pressure or hypoglycemic

      Low blood pressure
      * Dizziness, or feeling like you’re standing on a rocking boat
      * Fainting
      * Changes in mental status (difficulty concentrating, confusion) or a sense of “impending doom” or anxiety
      * Changes in breathing patterns (fast, shallow breathing is common during an episode of low blood pressure)
      * Nausea
      * Suddenly feeling cold or clammy, or a rapid onset of pale skin

      Low blood sugar
      * Mood changes, such as irritability, anxiety, restlessness, or anger.
      * Confusion, difficulty in thinking, or inability to concentrate.
      * Blurred vision, dizziness, or headache.
      * Weakness, lack of energy.
      * Poor coordination.
      * Difficulty walking or talking, such as staggering or slurred speech.
      * Fatigue, lethargy, or drowsiness.

      I hope i helped

  4. Bad headache hypoglycemia?
    I’ve been having bad headahes since Christmas which I thought might be because of stress but I have continued to have them. My mom says I could be hypoglycemic but I have also started expierencing rapid heart rate around 121, arm weakness like the bones are literally getting weaker, dizziness, tremors, sometimes a numbness in fingers, a little while ago joint pain. thought hypoglycemia but my headaches don’t go away upon eating. Could it be bone cancer, diabetes or something else.

  5. Is hypoglycemia something your born with? I’ve been getting headaches lately if i don’t eat?
    I get headaches every 2-3 hours if i don’t have a sweet snack right away. and I do feel hungry. but i eat so much.

    • Have you checked your blood sugar during these headaches? They may also be caued by low blood pressure which will also slightly raise if you decide to eat sugary snacks. Hypoglycemia that is genetic would be a clue to Diabetes Typ 1 but without more information from you it’s impossible to say if you show signs. If you haven’t checked your blood sugar during the headaches then I would suggest seeing a general practitioner about this problem, or sometime Pharmacies will check blood pressure or blood sugar. You would have to ask your local Pharmacist. Next time try eating complex sugars to help with headaches. Any type of food with a high starch level like Potatoes or sweet potatoes would be good. Then your blood sugar would stay more constant.
